Have you tried using a Pampered Chef decal on your car for business leads?

I got a new decal for my Sportage that I placed on the outside of my car, with the PC logo from Merrill and other lettering from JeriSigns.com. It was easy to apply and cost less than $25. Other consultants in the conversation are also considering using this marketing strategy and wondering about the tax implications. Some have already tried it and have had success.

How big of lettering did you get...I am SO doing this, GREAT idea and SO affordable

  • #102
I have a friend that does them for $25 I bought the PC logo from Merrill she did my name, website, phone # and FD verbage

At one time I had it on my expedition (what I drove to shows) & my convertible (from Town & Country) When DH bought my Santa Fe it was his idea to get one for the new car.

I have had great response from it.... One day a lady called and asked for me my son said she's at Kohl's and the lady laughed she was standing behind my car wanting to order cookware so he called my cell I went out and talked to her. She recognized my phone # as one from her town so she called.

I've gotten 2 recruits and many shows/sales

It's also great if you have teen drivers.... if they say they are somewhere it's easy to check in the dark :) BTW.. I have always trusted my kids it's just coincidental that a couple of times I ve been doing a show and my son would be at a friends house on the same street. Guests would be running late & would go to the other house first because they car was along the street and they saw the decal!!!

PC DecalYour PC decal looks great. I just received my Car Magnets from Merrill and was very disappointed. Not having any experience with car magnets I expected Merrill and PC to know better what I needed than myself. Well to my disappointment the lettering for my website is only 1/3" tall and the numbers listing my phone number are only 1/2" tall. How am I going to get any leads from this unless their sitting right next to me in a parking lot. I guess that was a waste of money.

Ugh...I am sorry to hear that! Yeah...my letters and numbers are about 2" tall so it's easy to read from a distance.

Anyway you could try and get $$ back? They will probably laugh at you, but it's worth a try. I am with you...how the heck is someone supposed to read something that small on a MOVING vehicle?? Either way, I would write to Merrill and cc home office so they BOTH know how silly it is!

  • #105
One of my magnets fell off! Merrill send me two of the stick on decals (better then nothing) and I just applied them yesterday. Luckily the PC logo is at the bottom, so I think I can stick a website above it

Kelly what is your feedback with your phone number? I am a bit leary of it...

Same here Kelly. I would love to order one also. I believe she she has a market here with the cheffers.

I was wondering if we could write off our car payment as advertisement? I have a PC friend who has permanent pc info on both sides and back of her SUV. Her tax girl saw no problem writing it all off as advertisement. I just purchased a new SUV (Outlander!!!) and spoke to my tax man about adding the PC info and he said no way.

We both live in the same state. She got a killer refund.

Does anyone know?

I know in California you can't write it off.

Maybe you should go to your friends accountant!;)

  • #112
Or...maybe her friend will be in for a surprise if she gets audited!

Personally (and I started this thread...so I have the permenant decals) I don't think writing off your car is a good idea. Mileage...cost of decals...actual costs incurred with your business, yes! I should ask my accountant, but I would be VERY surprised if that is legal to write off.

  • #113
actually, my friend charges $20 she charged me $25 which included installation of both decals

Before you put advertising on your car, you might want to check with your insurance carrier. In the state of Michigan, if you advertise, it is considered a business vehicle, and your insurance rates are much higher. IF you choose not to tell your insurance that you are advertising, and you were to get in an accident, your insurance policy is void.:(

  • #115
Wanted to just say I have these decals and used the same printer for my personal info and I get tons of questions, I pass out catalogs soooo much now in Walmart parking lots even at the gas stations to MEN! I spent around $30 I put them one on each side of my SUV and I say it is WELL worth the $30 plus some!

  • #116
I am ordering this today!
I will post pricing and pics too ..

  • #117
Bumping this up....I think I'm ordering tomorrow. My DH is going NUTS!!! He wants to make sure it is removable. UGH!!!!

  • #118
That looks awesome Kelly! I've been wanting to do that too, but wasn't sure how I wanted to do it, but I love yours! Thanks for sharing! :)

  • #119
Peek-a-boo, Kelly, WE SEE YOUR PHONE NUMBER!Looks spiffy. I'd put one on Ye Olde Escort, right above the dent in the back, but alas, I don't think it would draw the right kind of attention. "Yeah, sell PC so you can drive a rickety car just like mine!"

  • #120
I got a $167 order from a lady this week who followed me down a few streets , sat behind me in the bank drive thru and then drove off behind me. didn't think much about it and when she called I asked who referred her and she told me she got it off my car window.
she lives less than a mile from me, for 3 years I advertised every week in our weekly paper and sold 1 ice cream dipper the entire time it was very expensive not sure why it took me so long to quit.
I ordered the decal from Merrill and my friend did my info she can do any size/color.
If you want her info email me at [email protected]
I will be gone Sat. thru the Sun after Thanksgiving with no access to email, so if I get an email during that time I am not ignoring you, I'll send her info when I get back.

  • #121
What kind of attention do you think a decal would get on an older pickup? We just got an 86 Ford F150, in pretty good shape but it's obviously not a new vehicle. I am really trying to get my name out since I have not been doing this too long. Any input would be appreciated!

  • #122
Anybody? I would really like some feedback if anyone has an opinion. :)

  • #123
I don't think it should matter the "type" of vehicle you have, if you want to advertise your business go for it!! I just did a custom decal for my car through "Uppercase Living" they are a vinyl lettering company and it looks great, can't wait to apply it! When it's on I will shoot you a pix.. Good luck I think any advertisement is good!

Hey, if you have an old vehicle, you can tell them you are selling PC to help pay for a new one! I think having older vehicles shows that you have more important things to take care of in life...and that you are being wise not getting a new one all the time.

I drive an older GMC Safari van. My PC decal looks great on it. Just be sure to stock your truck with catalogs, order forms, recipes, and even host kits.

  • #128
On a side note, I FINALLY ordered one today - thought of it months ago, just am finally doing it! Mine has my website but not my phone #, we'll see how it goes!

My tax guy said that because its a decal, you can write off ALL mileage, but not the payments. Your mileage to and from shows and the grocery store, your mom's, the babysitter's, out to eat; its all tax deductible because you're marketing your biz.

I'd love to see the pic of the decal you designed from Uppercase Living! I love that company - I'm waiting for an order from them right now :)

Ok -- dumb question. Do you guys have apprehensions about this stuff? I mean do you put your home or cell #'s on these things. Call me paranoid, but having my home number on it weirds me out for some reason :)

Like -- if I say... um, acidentally cut someone off and they have insane stalker road rage and plug my home number in on the internet they could like find my house or something. Plus I have two kids -- I don't want some freak seeing me load my kids in the car in some parking lot and pretend to book a party.... eep. Ok -- yeah.. I need to stop now.

Yeah.. I know. I'm paranoid. I'll shut up.

It does look wonderful though and I think I would probably do it, but just change the phone # to my cell # and meet any leads in a well lit public area first..

I ONLY put my cell phone on anything that goes out to the public. Never my home phone.

I just mounted mine on Friday (before a long trip). its easy to adhere, but for some reason I put it off (didnt put it on my car for awhile). so...its htere now, and looks great.

 I totally agree. Plus, if I see a sales person driving a VERY nice luxury vehicle, I'm likely to question how overpriced their items are to earn them that kind of money. Maybe it's just the way I think--but it always crosses my mind. ;)

ETA: Vanessa and Chelle, post pix!!!! :)

I got mine done and it's been on since November 29th. I haven't had anone call from it but I have had people approach me and ask what PC is. I can't wait until it pays for itself!!

My DH buys me a new car of my choice every 2-3 years. I don't think people see me driving and think PC is too expensive and thats how I afford my vehicle.

I was commenting from what I'm "likely to question" based on my own experiences. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone. With my family having worked in the sales and financing of brand new cars in Texas, I probably see the purchase of a new luxury car differently than others. Without knowing the person at all, it initially would lead me to think of what janetupnorth said above (totally upon first impression). Again, my apologies.

I've got a large decal that I can't use because I drive a Nissan p/u with three small opening rear windows. I didn't think to tell them what size I needed.
I might make a yard sign out of it.

  • #139
It looks Mahvelous, Dahling! :)

  • #140
For the people who have the decals on your vehicle windows - did you include the P.C. Logo?

  • #141
Thanks for the info Kelly ~

I have the Merrill windo stickers and have planned on getting vinyl lettering for over a YEAR now. This is a good kick in the pants to order them...

  • #142
I have them, i got them when i first started... with my email and web site on it ..i think they look great, but.... i have only had one person ask me for a catalog, and he didnt want to talk with me.. i hope in the future i will get more..

On the topic of Merrill ... I haven't ordered signs from them, but I did get shirts from them at NC ... I don't approve of their billing cycle. NC was July 20. They didn't bill my CC until December!!! You know, just in time for me to NOT be able to use it for Christmas! Also, with their clothing, unless you get the actual T-shirts, everything they sell fits very small. (As an example, I normally wear an XL comfortably ... I couldn't even button up one of their 5x shirts!)

I just avoid Merrill like the plague ... I'll wait until PC gets a different authorized vendor before I put a decal on my van!!!

  • #144
Kelly,

That looks great! I have that sticker from Merrill and have been contemplating doing that exact same thing.... I'm just a little nervous about putting a sticker on my car....

We did the same as Kelly on our Van & it works.
We've had 2 people call us out of the blue that got our number from our van and one person stop Joe for information. We've already made back what we put out for it.

I don't know if this has been mentioned on this thread yet, but at Leadership (no I wasn't there, but I read it somewhere on here) that Don Funt, I think, bought a shower caddy with suction cups and when he goes into a store, he puts cattys & flyers or whatever, for people to take as they go by his car!! LOVE THAT IDEA!!!

  • #149
hey has anyone thought about because you are advertising your business on your car that you might be able to deduct some of the expenses for advertisement...... i don't know it was just a thought... maybe you can as your tax preparer that!!!

BTW, my decal from JeriSigns.com WITH shipping was less than $12...and the Merrill decal (not including their outrageous shipping...I ordered other things on that order...)was $10!

So, for less than $25 I have a pretty darn nice looking decal on my vehicle! I am VERY happy!

WOW Kelly!!! I just may have to do that!!! Thanks so much for sharing as it looks great!!! I do have rear defrost on my car window though.
