Can we call it a job when it is volunteer????

Where were you a volunteer FF?

I currently am one.

I debated whether to put that there...but it had such a impact on my subsequent choices that I included it. I volunteered in Springfield, Va (a suburb of DC).

I was training to be an EMT and had to ride ambulance as part of the practicum. The station was half paid, half volunteer (and all volunteers pulled fire duty). I loved it. Didn't want bad things to happen, but figured if they did, I wanted it to be on my shift.

Anyway, my epiphany came when I was sitting around the station house on a Satuday night waiting for the alarm to go off and realized that, while exciting, I didn't want to be sitting around waiting for the alarm to go off 10 year later. (I respect those who do it, but it wasn't a life-long calling for me.) I enlisted in the miltary two days later.

...and applause/thank you's for you being a volunteer firefighter!!!!

I bet you get a kick out of that battle! DH and I never missed MK in her first TV series - Providence. Loved that show.

Don't worry, me either! That's why I volunteer...I can do it yet it isn't a "career". I do like the EMS side to it too although I only ride on the ambulance for clinicals or if I want a "refresher clinical".

#1 - Awesome! Me too - well not a job, I stay a certified lifeguard for helping at camp since hubby runs the waterfront. It is a pain for me to recertify though since hubby is one of the area's only decent instructors. I'd rather test out with him because he is tough (tougher on me that the rest), but rather not so no one thinks there is favoritism.

#2 - I know many little girls that would be jealous!!!!

I'm a Gary Sinise fan too. He is so versatile as an actor......I watch anything that he is in.

Man!!! I miss that show too!!! They used to play the reruns everyday on Lifetime Real Women, and apparently that station is now gone!! As are the Providence reruns...I'm totally bummed!!! They guy that played her brother Robbie has been on Burn Notice, a new show on USA, a few times recently!
