Internet Trolls- How to Spot One, and What to Do

In summary, trolls are cowards who post to get an argument started, then sit back and count the responses. If you see a post that is repetitious or off-topic, or that seems to be troll-like in nature, be sure to respond.

Linda I'm joining your "group". I saw the first 5-10 minutes of the first Star Wars movie and that's it...http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/scared0016.gif
I HAD to watch one of the Star Wars movies in one of my classes. (Don't shoot me) I just didn't get the big deal. I haven't watched any of the rest of them.

Same thing with Lord of the Rings too. I tried to watch the first one with my parents and after 45 minutes we were all bored out of our minds!

I think I watched 15 mins of Lord of the Rings - I didn't get it.

I'm so sad....LOTR ROCKED!!! Course, I'm wired more like a guy than a girl, so I hate chick flicks and love action and adventure flicks.... I suppose it's the Tomgirl in me!

You guys are missing out on some really good films. You have to watch more than 15 minutes to get it... LOL

  • #58
Okay I don't get them either, I groan when DH wants to watch one of those.I love chic flicks, can't get enough of them.

ds is lucky both parents are scifi freaks oops i mean geeks :D

btw, ironman was very good...robert downey jr has made quite a comeback. it was hard not to drool in front of DS

as for the internet troll phenom...KG do you have a tsk tsk emoticon? as my granny used to say "he/she should only be well"

I usually like action/adventure and I like sci/fi books (not my fave but I find a good one now and then)

I sat through a few of the Harry Potter movies :D

  • #61
The secret to enjoying the Harry Potter movies is to have read the books.

  • #62
totally agree with you kg. even though the movies leave out a lot of the books, it doesn't ruin the movie.

i didn't, however, read any of the hobbit or narnia books, but enjoyed the movies so much! must be the geek in me ;-)

ds and i are psyched for prince caspian

Whenever Potterites and Hobbitors get together, it's like the old Lite Beer "Tastes Great - Less Filling" commercials.

Okay, I'm so not into Sex and the City. Yuck...

Love Sci-fi...love action/adventure...love it when things blow up, when good guys win and when there are fast cars/spaceships/bikes etc! Love Harry Potter, but the books are better- love Narnia, love Superhero movies!

I think we have officially turned this thread around and hijacked our hijack!

Movies are more fun than internet trolls anyway!:)

I was NOT a fan of Sex and the City when it was originally on. I had seen a few and thought it was so stupid. Then just happened to watch some random episode and got HOOKED!!

I have never seen Lord of the Rings either we do own the trilogy I watched some of it and thought hu?? I love the Harry Potter movies but it bugs me that they change things in the movie. Drives DH nuts when I talk about what should have happened instead of what happened. I honestly dont know if I have seen all 3 Indiana Jones movies but I have seen at least 1 of them.

Didn't this thread start of saying that trolling wasn't very effective?

The DaVinci Code drove me nuts with the differences with the movie and the book. I had just finished reading the book the day I went to see the movie so everything was fresh in my mind. I won't do that again!

Raiders was terrific, Last Crusade was okay, Temple of Doom was a waste of film.I read The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings in starting in junior high and finishing in high school. I've never, ever understood those who say it was an allegory for WWII. I think it was just an adventure story from the fertile imagination of an interesting man. I actually liked The Hobbit the best, and I enjoyed Bored of The Rings far more than the books themselves. There was an animated version of The Hobbit made back in the mid '70s that was awful. The animation made Speed Racer look like it had been made by Disney. The first two HP movies were actually pretty good, but I think Prisoner of Azkaban was the best out of the lot so far. I don't like what they've done with Dumbledore - he is a soft spoken, slow to anger, calm and wise man. Since Richard Harris died and they replaced him with Michael Gambon, they've made him into a sniveling, fearfull wretch, closer in personality to Snape than Dumbledore. Dumbledore is such an important character in Half Blood Prince and even in Deathly Hallows that the sniveling characterization is going to have an adverse effect on the story line. Neither Goblet of Fire or Order of the Phoenix should have been made as single movies, or at least been made as single movies with an intermission. There is just too much left out to maintain continuity with the first three movies. At least Deathly Hallows is (currently) in production as two films but we'll see if they are released that way.

Good book.

If you want to get really geeky, you need to hear my conversations with DH about the LOTR films. He likes them because they're sci fi/fantasy. But he's never read the book. So he'll ask about specific things, which I may or may not remember from the book. But I'll bring up things from mythology (specifically the Norse mythology that Wagner used as basis for the Ring cycle operas) that relate. We usually end up singing "kill the wabbit" from "What's Opera, Doc," because that is also based on the ring cycle. :)If you're not a sci fi/fantasy fan, the trick to watching any of those movies is to view the setting as merely that, not an integral part. And focus on the universal themes of search, hope, and redemption that form the core of any good epic.

The eye candy in LOTR/Star Wars doesn't hurt either! :D

I'm in the boat of the "Huh?" folks in that I don't get it & haven't watched most of the sci-fi movies mentioned within. Oh well. We've got good movies in our boat, too! :D

Glad the drama apparantly didn't last long, lol!

My dh loves all the movies mentioned too....Star Wars & Lord of the Rings. I actually liked the Rings movies more than I thought I would.

I wonder if that is because J.K. Rowling announced shortly after the 7th book was released that she always felt like Dumbledore was gay-

I agree with your assessment. The new Dumbledore bites!

The direction this thread went on was a very positive one - figures a bunch of Cheffers can make lemonade from lemons.
