Unlocking a Lead with Just an Initial: How to Make the Call

In summary, the conversation discusses how to approach a phone call with a lead that only provided a first initial for their first name. Suggestions include introducing yourself and asking if the lead is the person who contacted you or leaving a message if not. The conversation also includes venting about unproductive leads and the potential for unexpected opportunities from these leads. The requirements for receiving online leads or orders from HO's website are also mentioned, including being a Team Leader with $1250 in personal sales and one recruit in the previous four months.

I got a lead today that only gave me a first initial for their first name. How do I approach this phone call?

I'd probably say something like "Hello, this is Becky with The Pampered Chef, and someone with the last name of Smith at this # contacted me today asking for information. Would that you be you?"

That's exactly how I'd do it.

She knows she just put her initial on there so I'd say:

"Hi! I"m Beth, with Pampered Chef. I just got notice that someone with this number wanted information about Pampered Chef. They didn't put down their first name, just their initial. Was that you?" If not, then say "the initial was __ - can I leave a message?"

Depending on how the call goes you'll probably have a name before you hang up.

If I got a machine I'd say:
"Hi! I"m Beth, with Pampered Chef. I just got notice that someone with this number wanted information about Pampered Chef. I'd love to help you. My number is ______ ..."

I called her and she said "I was trying to track down a consultant I knew but when I went through the first way it didn't find her so I thought that this way would help me track her down!! I guess I'll keep looking for her.":mad::mad:

Thanks for nothing lady, I was really hoping to get something out of this!

By the way there is a limit to how many smileys you can use so I need to put a few more in there!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I know how you feel- I had a dead lead because someone got confused on FB. She already had a consultant.

One more time, at what level do you have to reach before you get online leads or orders placed from HO's website?

That is a bummer - but here's a twist on this situation!

If she wasn't able to find her, then possibly that consultant isn't selling any more. You could call back and offer to help find her - if she can't be found, then you might have a new customer!

I say this, because the exact same thing happened to me - I got a home office lead, and the person on the other end was so concerned because she had booked a Bridal Shower with a consultant, and now couldn't get a hold of the consultant. I helped her search, and it turns out, that consultant is no longer selling. I did the Bridal Shower last minute (over $700) and the young lady who hosted (and originally contacted me) booked a party of Sept - and now has over 60 names on her guest list for that show, and is thinking of signing at her show. Lots of great things happening because someone couldn't find the consultant they were looking for! :D:thumbup:

I offered to help her find her consultant. I asked the name which she told me and asked where the consultant was from, that's when she said she would just keep looking herself.

Hope she doesn't keep trying to find them the same way and ruin the HO lead system for others. Is she going to just call HO directly and find out?

I had a HO Lead once want me to come to her Winery and have my friends there for a show to promote her business. She didn't want to do her own show!!

There was a consultant from the midwest who had a Home Office Lead that was a Casino looking for items for their high rollers to choose from....ended up being a $20,000 order.

It's the luck of the draw, but if you're not getting them it's a nice extra perk -- I was a Home Office Lead 5 years ago and am a Director, have sold over $210,000 in products and recruited 34 consultants since I started.

The next one may be like that!! ;-)

I've had a few like that! Last summer I had a HO lead (my first one!) who wanted to book a show. She co-hosted with her best friend and ended up having my highest show ever $2000! She then went onto sign up for the business last fall and has been one of my strongest team members.
