So...has Anyone Served on Jury Duty Lately?

Well, after qualifying for hardship postponements for my last few jury summons or so, I'm now in a place where I can finally serve and I received one today. My first postponement started with one for our tiny county courthouse and each one progressed to a higher court and viola! I now am called to serve for the US District Court starting the week that my ds graduates from high school. I need to be on call for the entire month of June.

So, has anyone ever served on a Grand or Petit Jury? I'm rather excited to finally be able to do my 'civic duty'. I guess last weeks trek to downtown Sac for the Regional Meeting was a 'practice' run for this country gal...

Say a prayer for me...not only do I have my ds's graduation that week, I also have my dd's birthday, my first major fundraiser and a book sale.

I also keep hearing 'Jury Duty! Jury Duty!' in my head from 'The Grinch'.

I've served on two jury's. One was while I was living in Hawaii and it was a ****-fighting case (well, technically it was gambling since ****-fighting is/was legal there at that time). I was just glad I didn't have to look at photos of mangled roosters. The guy was guilty. The second case was a few weeks ago here in Atlanta. It was a battery/simple battery case - guilty too! I enjoy jury duty.

I went to jury duty today but didn't make the cut. Ended up I knew the plaintiff and the defendant. How weird is that!!!! I couldn't believe out of all of these years of wanting to be called and finally was and then I had to know both of them. What luck!!!

I have been called twice the 1st time I was nursing my DD and we were going to be out of town for that week for vacation.
The 2nd time I called that moning and it had been canceled

So, funny you ask! I went into today, but they dismissed us because the defendant wanted to file some motions. I knew who the prosecuting attorney was and when she saw my name on the list she told me that I just knew you wouldn't want this case.... it was about a man robbing an "adult" store and they had many items for evidence. She said there were pornagraphic materials, sexual aids, etc.

I am counting her as one of my contacts today.... I wore my PC shirt and took my catalog tote and she said... you don't happen to have a new catalog with you , do you? Ha! Here you go, I said.

When I came home I sent her an email about hosting a show... her discount is about to expire soon!

I know a few of the attorneys in my town... they've had wonderful shows for me!

I served on a civil case last year. It wasn't too bad. The worst part was that I didn't have any vacation time from my job so it was all without pay. It took about 3 days. It is sort of cool to be a part and learn how it all works. It was very interesting.

Thanks, Jolene! It just so happens that the first day that I may have to report in is the same first day of the 'Big I-5' project...:yuck: I'm thinking that I might venture out and take the train.

Btw, did you catch the weather report? They are calling for 100 on Thursday and Friday!:cry: It's only the second week of May!?! ugh.

I love hearing everyone's court stories. One special link for me being called to this courthouse is that it was the last Sac highrise in which my dad was the site construction supervisor and it was the last project that he and my brother worked on together before he retired. My dad passed away 4 years ago this month and it's kind of nice to have a tangible connection with him by being able to see all the buildings that he worked on. :angel:

I know it's crazy, but I have always wanted to serve on a jury, but never have been called. My husband gets summons all the time, but he is automatically dismissed (he's a cop). I wonder if they would reject me for being a cop wife... that watches too much Law & Order?
I hope whatever way it goes, jury duty works out well for you.

My uncle was a police officer, too, but he still had to serve. Perhaps it depends on the case and what they know.

Were they civil cases? All of his summons have been for criminal courts, so I think that has something to do with it. I'm not sure, but I like to ask questions so now I have a new query

All I have to say is ICK ICK ICK!!
I think it would be kind of neat to serve on jury duty, but between traffic and parking ICK! Probably a good idea on the train.

And I hate the heat, ICK again! :yuck:

On the bright side, that is very cool that your dad was part of that building. My Daddy used to build stuff too and I have a proud moment any time I drive by something he has mentioned being a part of the team on.
My friends Dad is an architect and she got married in a church that he designed...
