Foul play’ suspected in missing woman case
Saturday, July 7, 2007, 01:41 PM
Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey announced today that investigators suspect “foul play” in the disappearance of 34-year-old Paige Birgfeld.
“Nothing during the course of our investigation has lead us to believe that Paige walked away from her family or that she left of her own free will,” Hilkey said in a press release. “Unfortunately, we do suspect foul play in her disappearance and the subsequent arson of her vehicle.”
Birgfeld was last seen on June 28, according to the Sheriff’s Department. However, the investigation stepped into high gear when her red Ford Focus was found torched near a business at 727 23 Road.
Since finding her burned out car, investigators have focused their efforts on the escort service, Models, Inc., Birgfeld was involved in under the moniker “Carrie,” the release said.
Anyone with information about the local woman or her disappearance is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 244-3500.
