Looks Like There'll Be No Fr for Me This Summer

In summary, Carolyn's great uncle killed himself and in his will he left half a million dollars to an organization that Carolyn did a fundraising for last summer. Carolyn is sad because she thought the organization wouldn't want to fundraise anymore now that they have the money.

Remember the huge FR I did last summer?
Looks like it won't be happening again.
My great-uncle killed himself last week - and in his will it seems he left half a million dollars...to the group I did the fundraising for. So - they won't be needing my FR s anymore. Wah.

Carolyn - I am sorry to hear of the loss of your great uncle - how horrible -

How wonderful he left the money to a good cause though, he must have been a very special person!

Why not approach another charity that needs a fundraiser?? Dont give up yet!

Such a weird situation...
...thanks for the condolences - a very weird weird situation. He was mentally ill - long term lifetime of issues.

I forgot what the organization was Carolyn, but I'm surprised. Even with half a million dollars left to them and budgeted right, it is kind of short-sighted to not continue to keep fundraising and build the funds up and help more people!I'd still talk to anyone with a "business sense". It sounds irresponsible to me to "take a large cash donation" and change policy. Sounds like they are looking out for the here and now of the organization and not so much the future of it.

Hi Carolyn:

First and foremost, condolences.

Second, don't assume that the organization will not want to continue fundraising. 500k is a lot of money, but not enough to fund an organization forever.

Approach them as you have in years past and you may be surprised!

It's a very small animal rescue group - non-profit...they rescue cats mostly and nirse them beack to health, foster them and try to find homes for them.
I sure hope they'll still want to raise $. I will certainly approach them as if nothing has changed.
