Kkco News Reports Paige's Father Asks Case to Be Turned Over

In summary, Frank Birgfeld, father of murdered Paige Birgfeld, has repeatedly asked for the case to be turned over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, claiming that the Mesa County Sheriff's Department lacks the skills to solve it. The Sheriff's Office has stated that they will not comment on an open investigation, but in the past, they have affirmed their expertise and encouraged anyone with information to come forward. It seems that Mr. Birgfeld's actions are only causing unnecessary trouble and hindering the investigation.

Frank Birgfeld, father of murdered fellow Cheffer, Paige Birgfeld, has again asked the Mesa County Sheriff's Department to turn the case over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. According to KKCO, the NBC affiliate in Grand Junction, Birgfeld continues to ask for the case to be passed on to another organization.

Birgfeld sent a letter to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office on January 25. In the letter, Birgfeld claims the sheriff's office lacks the skill to solve the case.

"I've asked for it to be moved to an objective agency of which the fog of corruption and cronyism and amateur police work doesn't reside," he said, "and the basic question is why not?"

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says they will not comment on an open investigation.

This is nothing new, Mr. Birgfeld asked for the case to be transferred to the CBI in May of 2009. (Morning Update, May 15, 2009.) At the time, Mr. Birgfeld demanded to know where all the cash was that CBS News had reported found in Paige's home. No cash can be found.

In earlier statements, the sheriff has stated this is an open and ongoing investigation.

He has said the office has the expertise to handle this case. He has also encouraged anyone with information about Paige's disappearance or murder to come forward.

It seems like Mr. Birgfeld is just trying to stir up trouble and cast doubt on the investigation. He needs to let the professionals do their job and stop making baseless accusations. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has already stated they will not comment on an open investigation, so why is Mr. Birgfeld continuing to publicly push for the case to be transferred? It is not helpful and only serves to distract from the real focus of finding justice for Paige.
