Isn't It Funny - Grocery Observation

In summary, Ann was shopping for groceries and had several receipts with ramen noodles on them and one from Trader Joe's with snacks. She also had a receipt from Costco. She tries not to be hungry when she's in the store, but the snacks always look good. Ann also had a funny grocery receipt from Target. Her daughter got her a Barbie doll and a Thomas the Train magnet toy. There was also a Bed, Bath & Beyond receipt for a mesh garbage can. Her last receipt was from K-mart for 18 items of clothing for her kids.

Isn't it funny how you can pull a grocery receipt out of your wallet and tell what recipe you were planning to make? Or what mood you were in when you were shopping?

I cleaned out my wallet today and had several receipts that had ramen noodles on them - obviously for the Asian Noodle Skillet, since I never eat the things otherwise. And then I got to the receipt from Trader Joe's on Saturday. Can you tell I was snacky?

Milk choc peanut buttr pretzel
Frozen artichoke hearts
Ginger slices
Milk choc pnt btr malt balls
Salsa verde
Nonpareille whole capers
Cookie shortbread with apricot
Corn tortilla
Flour tortilla
Fresh pk blueberry preserves
Mlk & Dark chocolate cashews
Choc almonds with salt/sugar

What interesting receipts are in your wallet?

Never walk into a food store when you're hungry.

I try not to, but the snacks always look good, anyway. What's really sad is that after we left TJ's we headed to Costco. I don't have that receipt any more, but I remember purchasing:

2 doz cookies (assorted - choc chunk, oatmeal, white choc macadamia)
2 pork tenderloins
4 pounds of bacon
4 pounds of unsalted butter
large box of "muffin tops" cereal
3 lb. package of string cheese
6 pounds of penne rigate
6 pounds of assorted pasta
12-pack of chicken broth
beef roast (don't remember the cut, but it was a 3-pack)

I've never seen that before! We're going there today...I'll have to look for it!

It's pretty good. They were sampling it on Saturday, so I decided to get a box. It tastes like blueberry muffins.

Unfortunately, they don't LOOK like muffin tops. They look like Golden Grahams that don't have their tan on yet. And have blue chicken pox.

That's too bad for me...I'm not a fan of blueberry muffins. Maybe they'll come out with another flavor!

Side note: Ann, if you are online, why does it show that you are off? Your green light isn't on.

I'm in stealth mode. Bwa ha ha haaa.....
Do I show up in the users list on the home page? I do on mine, but with an asterisk.

Sort of like the Home-run record.

No, you don't show up there....what the heck is stealth-mode? (Obviously I know what that means, I guess my questions is: How are you working in stealth-mode?)

Go to user control panel, then Options. The first selection is "invisible mode."

It freaks people out to see posts when you're supposedly not online. :) I'm twisted that way.

.....except for those of us who never even think to look over in the corner for that little dot.....and Ann, I just assume you are ALWAYS here!:D Oh - and my grocery list - would be too long to print! I always buy way too much - good thing we have a big freezer!EDT: - but I have come across old receipts - and been able to figure out what the write-offs are on them!

People laugh when I tell them that I do my grocery shopping at Costco, and there's only 2 of us at home.

Oh my...mine are USUALLY funny...let's look here...I was gone this weekend so it should be telling.

Target - Barbie doll and Thomas the Train magnet toy (Reward for son for being fully potty trained for a month now and of course I couldn't NOT get his sister something small too while in Racine). $12.49

O&H Bakery - 4 Kringles to take back home - $22.05

Bed, Bath & Beyond - mesh garbage can - $4.19

Gas - $75.00 (Only because the pump shut off there)...and I won't list all the other gas receipts - too depressing!

K-mart - 18 items of clothing for my kids for school, etc. - $67.53 (now that's bargain shopping - one outfit apiece was even worn to a wedding that weekend).

The laugh I'm getting from my receipts and how I like to visit every store not by us when I get to a city - priceless!

My receipts are more entertaining when I buy groceries at Wally World on a road trip.

Mine, either, or I'd be using it.

Maybe Greg disabled mine for that reason. ;)

There are only 3 of us.....and the small one doesn't eat a whole lot - but some of his favorite foods come from Costco! LOVE Costco! Try the refrigerated (not the frozen ones) spinach and cheese ravioli - it's the BEST!

It's on mine. Maybe it's only on the super-mega-post-slut control panel.

KG is the only person with a description of "Cheerful curmudgeon" in his profile instead of "junior member" or "senior member". :D

Actually, I'm pretty sure it is a feature for the "gold supporters".

That would explain it!

<giggle> Do you have the shirt? Can't be a proper PS without the shirt. :D

Should the words "proper" and "slut" be in the same sentence? :)

We only read posts from proper sluts here.

OK- I can't find in my control panel where to change the description. Poot!

In this case, yes.

Try "edit profile" - custom user title.

Yeah, that's what I'd think, too. And here I though all this time that Greg had changed KG's title, when he probably did it himself. humph.

Please note, this thread has been hijacked since the middle of page 1. Didn't last very long, did it? And here I thought it would be a fun thing to do...

It was a good idea...and I was even digging for some receipts myself. You seem to be the chief hijacker of your own thread.

Yeah, I guess. Rebecca started it, though.

I've got a bunch of post office receipts in my wallet, too, but those aren't interesting.

There's a good one from Ben and Jerry's:
1 reg scoop
1 waffle cone
FREE waffle

And this one, picking up supplies for the party I hosted a couple weeks ago:
Coca Cola (I got some regular Coke, since we usually only have Diet in the house)
Bottle Deposit
Creamry (half and half for coffee)
Pinot Grigo (yes, that's how the scanner spelled it on the receipt)

Not many can spell or think of Curmudgeon - I had to look it up when he first put it out there!!!! I KNEW it had to be a "KG thing".

It is quite the oxymoron too...like military intelligence...adult male...baggy tights...anarchy rules... ;)

I wish I could FIND my receipt from yesterday. I did grocery shopping & am trying out 2-3 PC recipes this week & cannot find the receipt anywhere! I looked through all the bags, my purse, etc. Nothing. I thought I put it in my pocket, but it must have fallen out. Now I can't write that food off!

No, I didn't! I though this would be a fun "game." And who doesn't usually have some bizarre juxtaposition of products on a receipt in a pocket, wallet or purse?

Only those who don't have any type of fun or flexibility in life and have to list every detail...

(Of course, they probably spend less money...)

I know, I know!!! You made the Enchilada Casserole, right?

<giggle>

After the response the Asian Pork Noodle Skillet got at my meeting last night, I expect there was a run on ramen in the Detroit area. :D

  • #50
You are SO right - it was enchiladas!! :D

The demo went pretty good other than the fact that I should have reminded my director that I needed the hot plate. I had to run to the store to get one since she didn't have the gas for hers. Oh well, I needed one anyway I just didn't want to spend the $$ right now.

Everyone loved the recipe and I am sure the Asian Noodles will be made many many times!

1. "Why do our grocery receipts often reflect our mood or meal planning?"

Our grocery receipts can often reflect our mood or meal planning because our food choices are often influenced by our emotions and cravings. When we are feeling snacky, we may be more likely to purchase indulgent snacks like chocolate or pretzels. Similarly, when we have a specific recipe in mind, our receipts may show ingredients that are specific to that recipe.

2. "Why is it funny to look at our grocery receipts?"

It can be funny to look at our grocery receipts because it can reveal patterns and habits that we may not have been aware of. It can also serve as a reminder of our cravings or mood at the time of shopping.

3. "Do you have any interesting receipts in your wallet?"

Yes, I have several interesting receipts in my wallet. One is for ramen noodles, which I only buy when making our Asian Noodle Skillet recipe. Another is from a recent trip to Trader Joe's, which shows a variety of snacks and ingredients for different recipes.

4. "Why do our food choices reflect our emotions?"

Our food choices can reflect our emotions because food is often associated with comfort and pleasure. When we are feeling a certain way, we may turn to specific foods to help us feel better or satisfy a craving. This can be reflected in our grocery receipts.

5. "How can we use our grocery receipts to make healthier food choices?"

By reviewing our grocery receipts, we can identify patterns and habits that may not align with our health goals. We can then make a conscious effort to make healthier food choices and substitute items on our receipts with healthier options. We can also use our receipts to plan meals and make a grocery list to avoid impulse purchases and stick to healthier options.
