I Don't Have the Products for the New Recipes :(

I am so excited about these new theme show recipes, but I don't have some of the products to do them like they have them. I need to figure out what I can use as a substitute for the products I don't have.

I just spent too much $ on my samples order and supply order, I can't afford to get more right now. Sept. is my kit enhancement month. I just hope I get some shows and commission so I can justify spending more $!
 
What products don't you have that you need to make the recipes?

Seriously, what don't you have? We could offer suggestions. I need to look at the recipes more closely, but it seems like a lot of them use mostly things in the kit. I know the Classic Mini Cheeseburgers is a new consultant recipe.
 
That's why certain products are on supply order--for you to purchase them at a discount to do the new recipes.
 
Which are you missing?

OT - did anyone notice that the caprese pizza recipe on page 39 of the fall catalog says to use the deluxe cheese grater instead of the new grater. I know its from the 29 minutes to dinner cookbook, but I would have thought that when printing the new catty they would just make that adjustment - at least in the catalogue.
 
I agree with everyone else. There is always subsitutes that you can use instead of certain items. For larger items, you could ask in your cluster to see if you can borrow them.
 
you don't HAVE to make the new recipes! they're all great ones! I like the three-cheese pizza in the summer. take a look at ALL the recipes, find one that you can showcase what you have and go from there. Don't get discouraged!
 
The last 2 recipes in each section of the Season's Best are always New Consultant recipes - ones that use only the products in your original kit.
 
Instead of using the large round stone w/handles you could just use the large bar pan for the artichoke dip don't cha think.

Definitely! I almost always sub the Lg. Bar Pan for a round stone.

Thanks everyone...I need to finish looking through the Seasons Best. I know there are plenty of other recipes I can demo. I was just so excited to see those big colorful Theme show display cards to show at parties. My eyes go directly to the recipes that involve chocolate and peanut butter :) And I don't have the torte pan set.

Really, my list is small. I think I was whining a bit prematurely. ;)

small micro cooker (what other products do you use when you need to melt chocolate or butter?)
meat tenderizer (I have a non-PC one, but wouldn't want to use that at a show)
colander and bowl set
julienne peeler (I could just use knives and julienne on my own, but I struggle with that-takes a long time for me)
6 qt. mixing bowl (SS)

*then there's the DDB and the DCB and the trifle bowl and the fluted stone that are used in so many other great recipes.

I know, my list is short and ridiculous. :) Plus, I need to watch the DVD's and see the recipe demos. Last DVD recipe demos showed how to substitute some products. Like I think they said to use the whisk instead of a juicer.

Ultimately, I just need to be patient and get those other things as I earn money. :)

I never take my micro cooker to shows - love it, and use it every day, but it's one of those things that sells well w/o being demoed.

To melt chocolate or butter (depending on the amount to melt) I use an Easy Read Measuring Cup, or a batter bowl, or a prep bowl.

I listed what I have above...and I've had PC stuff since 1993!You REALLY don't need this things...I pick recipes that fit things I have and then give the host a choice of those few. I don't hand them a SB and say "pick one". I direct what I demo.If they really like the recipe, they can buy the stuff and try it...perfect opportunity to tell them that if they try it in the first 30 days, PC will pay to ship it back if they aren't happy.

Me too - mainly prep bowls for melting things...

You'll get that stuff over time. People will be fine not using these things. They can't use anything from the stores before they buy it. They know our quality and know that if they aren't happy they can return it, so you'll be fine. Just pick recipes that use what you have and slowly you will build up your PC products. Instead of the large sheet pan, use the bar pan. Instead of stainless mixing bowls, use batter bowls. If you have a medium sheet pan, show that so they can see the quality. You can get both on the supply order right now. Good luck!

You can sub out a lot of things....
But I will say there is one thing I need and its the springform pan... used a lot in the new holiday cookbook!

I lot of those I also don't have. :( The small scoop is on the supply order, though. As far as spending the PC$ on the sample pkg, that's a hard call. I struggled with that as well. I ended up not getting all of it, but now kind of think I want to get some more. It's so hard to decide how to spend that $, but those new products will be great to show people at your shows. Plus, you can test them out and discover useful tips about them to share with customers. :chef:

Since you are new, just focus on recipes that you have things for. Then as you develop your business more you can move onto other recipes! Don't make this too hard for yourself right away. Or host a show and get some for free.

When I first started in March I had 2 kit enhancements almost back to back. One in April and another in July. What I did was looked through the book and wrote down everything I wanted...not just for my shows, but for me too. Then I rated everything on a scale of 1-5. 1 being that I could wait for it and 5 being a must have. Then I looked at my budget and determined from there what I would get. Now I have so much (I own 5 smooth-edge can openers and use all of them) and other dups one for home, one for shows, etc that this past Kit Enhancement, I bought nothing.
Start by making a list of what YOU want, not what the recipes say you need.

I did the same list, and found that I did not really NEED all the items I chose. I use the citrus press way more than I would ever use a juicer. The batter bowl is used for almost every recipe.
I did get the exec 12" skillet as soon as I could, and I sell at least 1 at every show (the 24/7 pan). I also make the rice cooker cake at every show (I bring ingreds) and sell RCs every time.
I agree w/ Janet -- I choose which recipes I will demo - the host gets a choice of app, entree or dessert.

I try to change up the recipe to fit what I have to show.

juicer--- use citrus press instead, I always do.. sometimes a squeeze, but it works.
torte pan set
small micro cooker - melt things in prep bowl
meat tenderizer (I have a non-PC one, but wouldn't want to use that at a show)- crush with anything els, and say that it would be easier with the meat tenderizer. I do that when I don't have the right tool, or ask the host.. sometimes they have it already.
colander and bowl set- I pre-wash things for time sake, and because I don't have this.
julienne peeler- again, pre-do it and talk about how the julienne peeler makes this hard job easier.
6 qt. mixing bowl- I just got the 8-qt. one because it is cheaper, but it is huge. Again just try to rearrange the recipe to fit what you have.

Does anyone in your cluster have something you can borrow? My director has EVERYTHING and always invites all of us from our cluster to borrow anything we want. I have done it a couple of times. It was nice to demo the Asian Pork Noodle Skillet with the beautiful 12" SS skillet. I did get a booking out of it because she wanted the cookware and couldn't afford to buy it. Hopefully, you aren't too far away from other consultants.

I have one in my kit, one in my kitchen, one in my desk at work, one at my BF's, and one in our camper. I found that having just one or two was so NOT working for me b/c I could never find them!!

I started out with what came in my kit and what I earned at my show I hosted before I signed. I took a list offline and ranked things with what I wanted as well. Slowly I have gotten almost everything. I will say don't buy something if you don't want it. There are a few things that I bought thinking I needed them and I have literally never used them! Just recently have I started getting a 2nd set of some things for my kit (TTA, scrapers and timer).
