Honing Tool? Okay, Stupid Question....

In summary, a honing tool is a kitchen tool used to sharpen and maintain the sharpness of knives by realigning the edge of the blade. It is recommended to use it before or after each use, using a proper technique of holding the tool steady and gently sliding the knife down at a consistent angle. Most types of knives can be used with a honing tool, but it is important to check for compatibility and to regularly clean and store the tool properly for longevity.

I was lent the honing tool from my director to take to a show (the host wanted to see it). I have 4 forged knives but no honing tool yet of my own. My question is - how the heck do I use this thing?!?! Do I just slide the knife towards me? or back and forth? Do I hold it level or lean it to the right or left or both? How many times? Does it do both sides of the blade at once? I'm sooo confused? What a knob I am! I even checked the PIG online and it just states you can use it daily if you want and not to use with the serrated bread knife! Some help that was!

I have to take it to work with me tomorrow to return it to my director right after work so I'd like to try and use it before I leave in the morning. I tried with one knife but have NO idea what I'm doing! obviously.....LOL

Also....why does the bottom swing out? LOL...okay, too tired to think anymore! It SHOULDN'T be this complicated!

swing the bottom piece out towards you. Place one hand on the honing tool itself and slide the blade throught the stones towards you. A couple of passes is all they should need, a couple extra won't hurt though. You really don't need to worry too much about angle, just strait though.
