High School Fundraiser: Gift Certificates or Catalog Orders?

In summary, the teacher is considering a HS fundraiser and thinks catalog ordering is the best option. She was also interested in knowing what other people have done and what worked well.

A freind who is a teacher wanted information on our Fundraisers for her Highschool. ??? I have...

What type is best for this type of org? Giftcertificates or Catalog ordering?
Anyone done a HS fundraiser lately? If so, how did it go? Did you offer incentives to the highest collector?

Thanks for any/all replies!

I'd be interested in knowing too (sorry I didn't help you!). I was thinking of contacting the High School Band in town.
Thanks!
Joanne

I would think that the catalog would be your best option even though you would need lots of catalogs but it would also bring you more business personally and if you have a website it would be used a lot! Everyone could get maybe 2 or 3 catalogs and have the students direct family members out of state, or area and even local to your website and place their orders under the fundraiser's name as host. Gift certificates are now even available on our websites! Good luck!

This is what I am doing with the middle school chorus. The choral director really does not want them selling totally out of the whole catalog - so I am using the Sept outside order form and promoting it as a Stoneware Savings Fundraiser. Each member got 5 Sept OOF"s and I typed up a separate flyer letting people know that the fundraiser will be on my website (starting next week) and if they want more, they can order thru that. Plus this kept me from having to hand out 52 catalogs...and the virtual catalog is now on the website!
This just made it easier for the kids. All they have to do is carry around 5 order forms. I told them all they have to do at least 5 separate orders and their name goes in a drawing for a Target card. If they want more order forms, the teacher has them.
The cool part is the day after we set all this up, PC announced the stoneware promotion for us!

A High School Fundraiser could get much bigger than you ever imagined. I'd suggest stocking up on PP receipts and catalogs and 9x12 envelopes. Put ONE catalog (all the other fundraisers only give each kid one), outside order forms inside. On the outside glue the instructions on one side and your incentives on the other side. (Have you watched your kids drooling over the junky incentives the other fundraisers give out? My daughter would look at hers 2-3 times a day!). I'd suggest offering your own incentives such as fast food gift certificates, movie tickets, and a mall gift certificate for the big prize. Be sure to put the stipulation: IF we have a $______ fundraiser, THEN the highest seller gets ___________, each student who brings in 5 orders gets____________, etc. You might want to offer a small incentive for each kid who brings in even one order. I know I've bought crap from my kid just so she won't be the only one not getting a prize.
