Gift Certificate Expiration: How Long is Too Long?

I'm donating a door prize to a local consignment sale. I'm going to donate a gift certificate along with a SB. How long should the gift certificate be good for? 1 year, 6 months, etc It's going to be only redeemable through me.

I made my last one for 4 or 5 months I think?

I usually give mine a year. That is PLENTY of time to redeem it. At Christmas, I gave gift certs to past hosts whose discounts had expired. I wanted to encourage parties after the holidays, those expired at the end of March. (I sent them out in November)
