Fixing an Overflowed Fluted Cake: Tips for Baking in a Microwave

In summary, fluted cakes are more likely to overflow in the microwave due to the high heat and quick cooking time. To prevent overflowing, only fill the fluted pan three-quarters full and adjust cooking time according to the microwave wattage. If the cake does overflow, stop the microwave and use a paper towel to soak up excess batter before continuing to cook. Regular cake mix can also be used for fluted cakes in the microwave, but make sure to adjust the cooking time. It is also important to use a microwave-safe fluted pan and to cover it with a paper towel to avoid splatters.

I was attempting to make the chocolate cake in the fluted cake pan in my microwave. I was about to turn it for the final 3 minutes and it was overflowing. Any advice?!

Sorry, I have made several and had no problems. I don't turn mine. I have a turntable built in the micro and I never turne my cake. What were your cake ingredients...I have had a lot of luck with the 3-2-1 cake: 3 eggs, 2 C sour cream and 1 cake mix. Maybe try it again, but remove some batter before baking. My pan (fluted) is about 3/4 full with batter before I bake it. Good Luck.

I have never had mine overflow, however, it cooks up and over the middle "post" part of the pan.

Maybe try cooking it at 80% power- that's what I have to do with my microwave, otherwise mine probably WOULD overflow! :p

Ok...I just followed the directions/ingredients on the Duncan Hines box but I will try decreasing the power next time. It just turned into a big mess. Weird!

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that your cake overflowed in the microwave. It sounds like you may have overfilled the pan or used too much batter. I would recommend checking the recipe and making sure you are using the correct amount of batter for the fluted cake pan. You could also try reducing the cooking time by a minute or two to prevent it from overflowing. I hope this helps and that your next attempt turns out perfectly! Happy cooking!
