Can a Fundraiser be Held for a Church?

When a fundraiser is held, does it have to be held for a specif cause (ie cancer, or a specific charity) or can it be done for a church and the check would be written to the church? I might have a lead for a church fundraiser but i want to make sure its possible

fundraiser questionI held a fundraiser for my church youth group. They were happy with the $165 they made. Not very much work for either side. It does not to be for a specific cause, as long as the check is to a non -profit organization.
