I'm being bad today but I really don't want to bundle and take 2 kids about 15 miles to church in this cold/wind/icy roads. <sigh> Guess we'll work on AWANA stuff at home.

Of course, we are STILL trying to potty train him and the poor little thing is going to see GI specialist for his persistant constipation (that is a whole other story), so DH took DD to church and DS and I stayed home. We ended up having our own "praise" time when he started yelling for me to come into the bathroom... he had gone #1 AND #2!!! I know all moms with potty training kids can understand how this experience, in and of itself, is a cause for some exuberant hallelujahs!!!

My morning started in the U.P...spent yesterday snowshoeing about 1/2 hour west of the bridge. It was a beautiful day day, about 32 degrees, fresh snow, great friends!
But today....hmmm...another story. A drive that normally takes about 4 1/2 hours took 8..we got stuck behind a pile up on I-75, had to double back north, take a back road back to the highway. Fortunately, it was nice up to about 45 miles east of my house, where it got ickky again. Curse blowing snow and icy roads when it's cold and salt and sand don't work!
BTW, the drive across the Mackinac Bridge was about the scariest I've ever experienced...not bad in the middle where there was no snow on the sides to blow around, but on the north end, it was complete white-out. Max speed was 20 MPH. It was kind of hard to be scared of blowing over into the lake, however, because you couldn't even see it.....They closed the bridge about 3 hours after we went over it.
Yeesh. And to think, last week at this time I was getting home from my vacation in the tropics

It was VERY windy - the car was bonuced several times - it was definitely a two hands on the wheel drive. The way home wasn't as bad once I got past the mountains but then there was a multicar accident up ahead of us and it took an hour to go less than a mile (I pray everyone involved was unhurt).
Today is predicted to be in the 40's and sunny and then we'll get back to the mid to high 50's again.
Oh yes, I'm bad about this. My DH has to keep me on it. I made a dent in it yesterday, but I have way more to go. It's such a pain to save it until the end, but I totally bring it on myself.Bren706 said:At least I know I am not the only one! I am trying to do this for both my personal and Pampered Chef accounts! :yuck:
Wearing layers of warm clothing and bundling up with a scarf, hat, and gloves can help keep you warm while traveling to church in cold weather. You can also consider investing in a warm coat or boots specifically designed for extreme temperatures.
It is understandable to want to stay home in extreme weather conditions, and your safety should always be a top priority. If you are unable to safely make it to church due to cold weather, it is okay to miss. You can always find ways to worship and connect with your faith at home.
Be sure to dress your kids in proper, warm clothing and cover their heads, hands, and feet. You can also consider investing in a car seat cover or blanket to keep them warm during the ride. It's also important to check road conditions and plan your route accordingly to ensure a safe trip.
There are many ways to connect with your faith at home, such as watching a church service online, reading the Bible, or having a family devotional. You can also use this time to reflect, pray, and engage in spiritual activities like journaling or meditation.
Many churches offer online resources and virtual gatherings for those unable to attend in-person services. You can also reach out to your church leaders or fellow members to stay connected and updated on any events or activities happening during cold weather. Additionally, consider joining a small group or Bible study to stay connected with your church community on a regular basis.
