APampered Chefs--Question Re Thicknesss of Slices

In summary, the APCS has a different handle that determines the thickness of the slices. The attachment is actually a different handle that you change out for the red one. The threads on the handle are thicker, producing a thicker slice. The peeler can be moved to be thin and stringy or to cut deep into the potato. The stand is preferred because it is easier to use.

Can we adjust the thickness of the slices for something being sliced on the APCS?

Older APCSI have an older APCS with the thick slice attachment. But I haven't been able to get it to work without splitting the apple. The attachment is actually a different handle that you change out for the red one. The threads on the handle are thicker, producing a thicker slice. Hope that makes sense. My friend gave it to me because she never used it. Now I know why.:)

I feel bad that I don't know about this... If I email HO it will take forever to hear back.

UPDATE: I figured it out on my own... Yeah, me! LOL I thought the peeler was adjustable because of being able to move the Coring/Slicing Blade. However, that is not what determines the thickness of what is being sliced. Its actually the grooves on the shaft that does, and that's fixed. So, thank you to hose who responded!

the thick cut piece was discountinued a few years ago. I have one, and I have never used it because they are too thick

When this thing peels potatoes does it peel it like the apple shown in the catalog picture? Real stringy? My church needs a peeler and curly fry maker for a festival. And the one's they have had in the past peel it really wide....am I making any sense at all? And are they durable. I need to know something so I can order for them ASAP. Thanks

Yes, it peels like it shows. I guess to do strings you would have to reset it to peel the potato more. It is durable. You can use the stand or mount it onto a counter. I love mine.

Does anyone know when this item was last updated? Wondering if it has changed for the better since 1998?

When doing potatoes can you have it not core them?

I have heard that you can peel only, but if you are slicing, you are coring (?) The same blade does both jobs

Yes. Its the Corer/Peeler Blade.

And, pamperedtiffani: You can remove the Corer/Peeler Blade, with the wrench provided although its not easy. I need a man to do it. LOL

Do you find it necessary to use the stand with the APCS? Or does a table or countertop suffice?

I prefer the stand. It DOES work on the counter, but I like the stand. You don't HAVE to have it for the product to be fabulous!

Thanks Anne! With apple season around the corner, I am thinking I may *need* (LOL) to get the APCS and am just not sure if I should also order the stand. Decisions, decisions....

When you think about it, its such a simple thing, but it had made life so much easier for me! I used to avoid doing things with apples.

You can move the peeler to be thin and stringy or to cut deep into the potato...probably about 1/4 inch. That is a great way to do curly fries!

I have a customer who told me that she opted to save a few bucks when she bought her APCS and didn't buy the stand. She used it all the time because she loved it, but when she went to take it off of her counter, it had scratched her counter up!
Needless to say, she bought a stand that night at the party. LOL
She loved hers so much she sold like 4 of them for me... she was going on and on about it. Love it!
For me, I'm just far too lazy to not use the stand - I can zip 'em through there, rinse the whole thing off, and back in the cabinet it goes. Easy peasy! I love mine!I peel pears on mine, too. :)
