What Should You Wear to Business Casual Events?

Did you guys see that? Last year I saw a lot of evening dresses (during the day). Personally I think it is a great idea!
 
I like the evening wear because it is the only place I get to dress up...maybe they are doing this in response to Leadership - a few people wore weird stuff...maybe they don't want the tiaras anymore?!?

Someone had a chef outfit....lots of tiaras and sashes....some tiaras were flashing....I almost wore one of mine (long story, but they are "real", not plastic) but decided against it.
 
I think it's to emphasize to achievers who don't dress up that they probably should. I'm embarassed for some of the people who walk who clearly didn't think about that when they packed their suitcase.

too bad they could have dressed up a few last years outfits :eek:
 
As someone who will be walking, I am glad to see that mentioned. I plan on wearing something that is at the more fancy end of Sunday church attire.

I was really worried at the prospect of shopping for "THE" dress, not to mention spending money on something I'd likely never wear again.
 
I wouldn't even wear that tee to workshops, let alone across stage! I'll have it on for our meet 'n' greets, though. :D

I think I remember some of those outfits that may have been improved by the tee, though. So sad. (My first thought is that the people who have achieved such great things that they're walking for TPC or promotions should take one commission check and splurge on a great stage outfit.)

I have my "stage walking" dress. I wore it both years I walked. I decded this year I need a new dress..

Question...How do you combine tennis shoes/crocs with slacks, skirts, jackets, sweater sets or summer dresses? I'm confused...:confused:

Has anyone ever found comfortable, professional, fashionnble walking shoes I doesn't like sandals because most rub my foot with too much walking

How much walking will I be doing - I am not averse to walking but when I do a half-marathon I am usually wearing running shoes

That's also my opinion, but I work for a company that seems to be stuck in the past. Some of the client sites we send people to do allow some capris as business casual, when worn with appropriate tops and shoes (and the pants come to at least mid-calf).

I've got 2 pair of new Capris that I plan to bring to Conference, mostly because everyone else wears them and I got sick of the funny looks when I was in slacks and blouses in the past.

I think it depends upon where in the country you are from. I had a hard time when I first moved down here (I come from NJ where you wear a business suit or pants suit to work every day)...here in South Florida business attire is WAY more casual that in other parts of the country and capris are a-ok for business.

I'm wearing capris, as well. And sandals. Nice leather ones, of course.

And I agree that they are not what I consider business attire, but I do think they are appropriate attire for the type of business I do - if that makes any sense!

I know I felt WAY over dressed for my first few shows and have now taken to dressing like this for my shows. I was shocked, honestly, at how casual people dressed for the consultant night and director's meeting at the house of my ED - but even she dressed really casual. I'm not going to complain! :)

I'm from California and the capris that I own are dressy attire.
I will definately be wearing capris.
Maybe capris and crocs.

Business CASUAL yes but they said business DRESS. That means: what would you wear for a one-on-one meeting with the CEO of a large company. (I'm not talking a jeans company or a casual company and I don't think PC is either.)

That being said, I am sure they won't turn people away who wear nice capris. I just think they want to make it more professional. It is an honor and those who walk are examples for others in the audience and should dress the part. That's how I interpret it anyway.

I think it's possible to "dress up" capris enough for them to pass for business casual. I have a bunch of pairs of them, but there's really only one pair I'd wear in any sort of business casual environment.

I think there are 2 different thread going on here! One is talking about those who are Walking Across Stage during conference - for that - it is business attire - NOT business casual.

But I believe some of you are talking about what is appropriate wear for conference in general - and for that, I believe Capri's are just fine!

I was confusing the two dress codes.

Business casual for workshops, etc.
Business dress for walking stage.

So I'm in agreement with you that capris are not appropriate for walking stage, as they are too casual.

That being said, I would interpret Business Dress as nothing fancy, flouncy or twinkling. JMO
I wonder if they are trying to get away from evening gowns.

Glad someone clarified before I put my foot in my mouth! LOL

I think capris are fine to work shops. I have some very nice business-attire carpi sets that I wear to work all of the time.

If I walked arcoss that stage, I would wear a ball gown! I love a ball gown!

And I think the tiaras/sashes are cute. Its just a nice little special touch.

Didn't mean to confuse-Sorry! I guess I missed the point that we were referring to "walking". I am not so I guess capris will be just fine. Thanks for the clarification.

IMO I wouldn't wear sandals. If you haven't been to McCormick it is huge! I think crocs might be okay, but I would go with a leather clog. My favorite are Simples. I saw ladies in heels but I decided to wear boots instead. Much more comfy. It did rain last year during wave 1 and it was cool so I wore light sweaters and jeans or capris. (I get cold easily) IF I were going this year I would wear the slacks with boots (I don't have decent simples at the moment0 with light sweater shirts or dress shirt with light jacket. And IF I were to walk, a dress would be the choice with heels (ouch). Do any of you have a NEW YORK NEW YORK? That is what I wear just to give a picture.

Well there is always Leadership for me :) Have FUN LADIES! I know I did :)

Okay! So now we are all on the same page!:p I agree that capris are great and totally appropriate for conference. I will be wearing them except to the Executive Banquet (I'm not walking this time).

As far as those walking and shoes are concerned: A lot of people just put their dress shoes in their tote so they have them for the stage but are comfortable walking around to classes.

When I first read "Business Casual" I got bummed out because that's what I wear to my fulltime job everyday and I was looking forward to wearing capis.

I think though that the business casual is a bit more dressy here at work because we are in an office environment (I'm a Benefits Specialist for a bank). I usually wear nice slacks, heels or loafers and blouses or cardigans sets everyday. It gets boring.

Now that I've read capris seem to be ok I'm not bummed out anymore! Glad I don't have to wear all my work clothes! Ü

I work in an office that has a similar dress code. Capris just aren't business casual to me. But since everyone else wears them, I'm gonna, too! :D
(I'm paranoid about not fitting in, mostly because I never did as a kid.)

On the dress code side of things - I just wear what I would wear to a show - that to me is business casual!:)

So, is it just me, or does anyone else find it a bit funny that they say denim is not appropriate attire, and yet..... our apron, that most of us wear to every show (where we are supposed to be dressing business casual) is DENIM? lol

it's funny...... at least I thought so.... lol ;)
